The app is a shopping list manager which provides many special feature to support regular weekly shopping and special purchases.
The shopping list can be restricted to the shop you are currently in. You can tell the app which items come from which shops, or it can learn by itself. It can handle as many shops as you need.
Shopping lists are prepared by selecting (by tapping/clicking) the items you need from the item list, or by adding new items as you need them. The item list can be classified to make it easier to find items, either by using the organizer, by creating one or more checklists (e.g. for regular purchases), or by assigning user-defined attributes to items.
Recipes (more exactly, lists of ingredients) can be specified, which allow you to easily enter a complete set of related items in the shopping list, and later during your shopping trip get a reminder about which of them you still need to buy.
Item records have space for free-text notes, intended for storing useful information which you may need to know while the shop. These can be permanent (part numbers, sizes, etc.) or transitory. The latter are intended for notes relating to the next purchase only, and are deleted when this is made.
Checklists, recipes, and shop assignments are easily created and updated in a special "edit list" mode.
Purchase of an item is recorded by a single tap on the list entry.
The shopping list can show either only items to be purchased, or also items just purchased, to allow an easier review of purchases at the checkout. Both forms of the display can be restricted if required to a single shop. The app has a mode in which it can learn which items you bought in a shop, so it knows in future that you can get those items there. The app can optionally keep a long-term record of purchases (with or without price). This can be set for individual items, so you can record consumption of things where this may be interesting.
Items may be entered directly in the shopping list, or may be scheduled for a future date. (e.g. Enter something in July that you need for Christmas, and don't see it in the list until November).
Repeating items can be set so that they appear in the shopping list automatically at regular intervals .
Data can be synchronised between any number of devices using your Dropbox account.
The app comes with preset data that can be installed if required to create a basic structure and item list. This is intended to simplify familiarization with the app and enable you to use it without extensive manual setup. The data can be edited and extended as necessary to conform to individual requirements.
The amount of data that can be stored and the number of items that can be entered in the shopping list are unlimited (subject to device capacity) provided a licence for the software has been purchased by in-app purchase. Without a licence, the amount of data that can be stored is limited to a volume that should enable you to review and trial the software. The unlicensed software supports all functions.
The app has a comprehensive help system. Every function has its own help text, which is automatically displayed (unless switched off) when the function is executed. In addition, the help panel of the app provides direct access to the on-line user manual.
The app is available in PC and Android variants. These are functionally identical.
The PC variant is not intended for taking shopping (an open laptop on the shopping trolly is not very useful), but may be used to set up data, create shopping lists, or get familiar with the functions. This variant is free of charge and and can be downloaded from the Kippsware web site.
The Android variant is obtainable from Google Play. It is free to download. The amount of data that can be handled is restricted. A licence must be purchased by in-app purchase to remove these restrictions.
The software, including the help system, is available in English and German. The user manual is currently available in English only. The software is designed to synchronize between installations using different languages.
