Released 01 January 2026
The Android software is not available on Google play. It can be downloaded from the Kippsware web site.
The online manual has been rewritten for version 3. Note that we have not yet updated all illustrations, so that some illustrations of Android screens still show formats and colours used in version 2.
Not all messages and headings are fully bilingual. These issues will be handled in future versions. Some progress has been made since the previous release.
Updates from some previous versions to 6.1.0 and later may cause error messages concerning the alarm list to be displayed. These may be ingnored. Alarms (reminders) for calendar entries will be correctly regenerated. Alarms for tasks did not work correctly prior to V 6.1.0 in any case.
On first installation, if a language other than English is selected, the system menu remains in English until the app has been exited via the "back" button and reentered for the first time.
This version is compatible with the latest Dropbox interface specification. It must be used if synchronization via Dropbox is required.
Handling of Actions (Tasks) has been reworked. Task reminders are now produced on planned activation and completion of tasks.
This cannot be changed.
Reminders for Calendar entries (if set) and for tasks result in creation of Android notifications. The visibility of these notifications depends on system settings.
Version 5.3.1 corrects a windows-specific problem with native mode synchronisation. This version is fully compatible with other variants in version 5.3.0.
A number of errors in synchronisation with the Android native address book have been corrected and new options for synchronisation with the Android address book have been defined.
A new function "Reflect to System DB" has been introduced to allow explicit update of the Andoid address book without having to edit the IK-Org address entry.
These changes and hew features are documented in the user manual .
To maintain compatibllity, a new version or the desktop software has been provided. This is functionally identical to version 5.2.0, although some minor corrections have been made and some texts changed.
Errors in native synchronisation have been corrected. This function now works as documented.
The desktop variant contains a preliminary release of the address label printer. This will be extended to the Android variant after further tests. Currently, only one label page format is predefined. Documentation is being prepared.
The Android variant has been updated for compatibility with all Android system versions from 6 to 14. Some adaptations have been made to improve the user interface on large-screen tablets.
This version is compatible with the current version of the licence server. There are no changes to the documented licensing procedure. However, licenses that have already been installed will be reset and the software must be relicensed. The licenses available to a user will not be reduced by this procedure.
The software now supports the synchronization method "native synchronization" as well as synchronization via Dropbox.
This version implements the KippsWare data security / password protection functions as described in the Common Functions Manual .
Extra buttons have been added to the start window to allow easier use of the search functions.
An issue with synchronisation on Android devices has been corrected. This problem could cause changes made on an Android device to be lost on synchronisation, and in some cases might have caused a program crash.
The software is compatible with this new kippsware web site kippsnet.eu.
The Android variant of this version is not available on Google Play. Both the Android and the desktop versions can be downloaded from the Kippsware download page . Kippsware licensing applies to all versions.
Android-specific error corrections concerned with the display of reminders from the calendar and the action list have been implemented. Previously, a crash could occur if a reminder were due after the app had been stopped. There are no functional changes. This version is fully compatible with the 3.5.0 desktop software.
The system menu function "Reinstate alarms" has been removed. To reinstate correct issuing of reminders after the device has been switched off and on again, it is now sufficient to start the app once and then terminate it.
Android-specific error corrections concerned with the display of reminders from the calendar and the action list have been implemented. There are no functional changes. This version is fully compatible with the 3.5.0 desktop software.
All known problems with reminder handling should now be resolved. On Android devices, reminders are shown when due as notifications, provided notifications have not been deactivated at system level. On desktop systems, any due reminders are displayed in the reminder window when the program is started and due reminders are deleted when the program is terminated.
Initialisation on Android uses correct preset data, as specified in startup dialogue. In some previous versions, this data was not loaded, even when selected.
Handling of on / off for help texts works correctly on all variants. Thus if help messages can be turned off completely and then turned on again, the previous state of "Do not show this message again" can be remembered.
Handling of alarms in Android has been updated:
Sorting and display or lists of names and addresses now uses the collation sequence of the current locale. The main difference for latin characters is that accented characters are treated as directly following their unaccented equivalent.
Help switch off / switch on restores the state of show / don't show of individual texts to what it was before the swtch off. Reactivating all help is an option.
Some errors have been corrected, including some specific problems with calendar displays.
This release is necessary because of new security interfaces implemented by Dropbox (in detail: Dropbox core SDK V 4.0.0, should you want to know).
This update is completely transparent to the user, except that special action is required on the first synchronisation following installation of
the the update.
On the first synchronisation after update to this version, the Dropbox interface will reject the synchronisation with the message "Refresh token not
available". Repeat the synchronisation operation. You will be requested to re-authorise the app with Dropbox. After this has been done,
synchronisation will proceed as normal. Further synchronisations will function (as before) without further explicit authorisation.
This procedure is necessary on all devices.
Minor error corrections have been implemented.
A problem with handling the calendar in cases where days from two years are displayed has been corrected. There were inconsistencies in behaviour when accessing a day from the year that was not the main year of the display, i.e. days from the end of December in the calendar for January or days from the beginning of January in the calendar for December.
Minor error corrections performed.
Improved database validity checking on startup has been implemented. This should resolve errors caused by existing database inconsistencies.
Handling of synchronisation conflicts has been updated. Various problems in connection with synchronisation of deleted records should now be resolved.
The option "automatic synchronisation when necessary" is now has the expected effect in all cases.
The input dialogue for repeating calendar entries has been updated.
This version corrects an error in the calendar concerning the display and update of the last days of December. Days at the end of December that appeared in the calendar display for January could not be updated as expected and attempts to edit these days could cause a program crash.
Some improvements have also been made in the handling of filters.
An installation package for Mac OS X is now available.
This version is a complete reworking of the original software.
The changes have necessitated some changes to the database. If using synchronisation between devices, or if upgrading from a version of IK-Org Free, please read the information under "Importing data and Upgrading from IK-Org Version 2" here before installing the new software.
This version is compatible with Dropbox API V2, and therefore resolves recent (since End Sept. 2017) problems with synchronisation between devices via Dropbox.
Resolution of serious problems with synchronisation
Other changes
Android variant
PC Desktop / Laptop variant
Some of the problems referred to above may not disappear until after the first synchronisation with the new version of the app. If you have data that you did not succeed in synchronising because incorrect warnings during the synchronisation caused you to abort the attempt, delete the master file on dropbox, then resynchronise all devices, starting with the device with fewest unsynchronised changes. (The dropbox master file is in your dropbox folder in subfolder Apps/IK-Org and has the name Kpim.txt).
Problem on synchronisation following deletes of recently created records:
The sequence create record / delete same record / terminate / restart / create record / synchronise caused the record last created to be
wrongly recognized as deleted on the device, so that it would be deleted from the master DB on synchronisation.
Problem completely resolved.
Some minor corrections to texts.
Version 1.2.1 for Android contains a number of Android-specific error connections relating to synchronization and some formatting improvements in displays.
The synchronisation function has been rewritten. Synchronisation is now implemented using a master database held on the user's dropbox account. All devices - whether Android or PC - synchronize with this master. The previous synchronisation functionality via a master desktop device with a physical connection is no longer supported.
The Android variant requires at least Android 3.0.
A backup and restore function for the database is now available in both PC and Android variants.
No changes that have an effect on the user interface.
No known general problems at present (this will be updated as error reports are received).
The system alarm associated with any open reminders for calendar events will be lost if the device is switched off and re-booted. To reinstate the alarm, open the next event due in the calendar ind re-save it. All alarms with be reinstated.
If multiple calendar windows are open at the same time, a change made to the calendar in one window will not be immediately reflected in other windows. To update any other window, change the month or year in that window and change back again.
If a calendar window is open during synchronisation, the window will not be automatically updated to reflect changes due to the synchronisation. Update the window as described above.
There is currently no install package for Apple OS X. The Java archive variant can be downloaded and started from the Finder.
Note that IK-Org requires the Java runtime 1.7. This can be downloaded from the Oracle web site. The Java version obtainable from the Apple support web site appears to be 1.6, which is not sufficient (situation 3.01.2015).
